Chimpanzee tracking
Out of about primates that thrive within Nyungwe Forest National Park, chimpanzees are a few most fascinating creatures you need to catch a glimpse at. They range in groups of about 10 and more. For visitors on safari in Rwanda, chimpanzee tracking is one unique and thrilling primate adventure you need to add in your bucket list. To take part in this adventure in Rwanda, you need $90 for you secure your permit. Treks to view these special creatures are conducted in habituated groups. Interestingly, while you are on trek to view chimpanzees in this park, higher chances are that you will also come across other primates, birds, plant species and many more.
Mountain gorilla trekking
If your dream has always been to strike your imaginations with mountain gorillas and you are not sure of which destination to visit then Volcanoes National Park is that one unique destination you shouldn’t miss to explore while on Rwanda safari. For visitor experiences, 10 gorilla families have been habituated and readily available for trekking. They include Group 13 also known as Agashya, Kwitonda, Susa A, Susa B-Karisimbi, Amahoro, Ugenda, Umubano, Guhonda, Bwenge and Hirwa. Remarkably each of these habituated groups rewards trekkers with unique experiences and rare history that they have to tell the world travelers. A trek to see a group of mountain gorillas in the jungles of Volcanoes National Park is exceptionally a lifetime experience. Treks kick start at Kinigi park headquarters with morning briefing on dos and don’ts that are to be followed while in the jungle in search of these magnificent creatures. The trek may last you about 2 to 6 hours less or more depending on your hiking speed, location of gorillas and nature of habitat. To take part in this life changing experience, you need a gorilla permit which costs $1500.

DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes national park
You will wake up have an exquisite breakfast and later meet with our driver guide for a transfer to Volcanoes national park with a stopover at Ibyiwacu cultural village to experience the Rwandese culture and traditions after this session you will continue to your booked lodge check-in for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking
Early morning after breakfast at the lodge you will grab your packed lunch and proceed to the park head offices for a briefing and later embark into the forest with the help of the park ranger guide. When in contact with these animals, you will be allowed to have one hour experience and take as many photos as you can.
Meeting these animals in their natural habitat watching them play, interact, move is a real adventurous experience. After the adventure you will get back to head offices to meet with your driver guide for a transfer to the lodge to retire for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe national park
After breakfast you will check out of the lodge and travel to Kigali for a city tour to Kigali Genocide memorial, Kings Palace at Nyanza and Butare museums as lunch will be enroute at Butare then later continue and check-in your preferred lodge in the park for and overnight.
Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking
You will wake up early morning at 6:30am have your breakfast and transfer to the park head offices for a briefing by one of the park rangers then later embark in the jungle for the search of the these primates with the help of the park ranger guide who is familiar with the sites. After a successful search you will meet with these primates watch them climb on tree branches, feed, play, communicate among other routine practices that will leave you a story to tell
Exhausted, you retire to your preferred lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Canopy walk and transfer to Kigali for a departure
After early breakfast you will check out of the lodge and to Uwinka visitors Centre for a two hours canopy walk and later continue to Kigali Airport for flight connections back home.
