What to do in Nyungwe Forest National Park

Chimpanzee tracking
Out of about primates that thrive within Nyungwe Forest National Park, chimpanzees are a few most fascinating creatures you need to catch a glimpse at. They range in groups of about 10 and more. Canopy walk
In the whole of East Africa, it is only in Nyungwe Forest National Park that offers this unique experience. It is first of its kind in this region and third in Africa. There is a walkway suspended above 50 meters above the ground that takes you through the forest where you will be rewarded by incredible views of primates, birds, plants and many others.
Monkey tracking
With 13 distinct primate species that thrive in this park, visitors on Rwanda safari have opportunity to catch a glimpse at varied monkeys. They include the grey cheeked mangabeys, Ruwenzori colobus monkeys, golden monkeys, red tailed colobus monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys, owl faced monkeys, blue monkeys, olive baboons, vervet monkeys a mention but a few.
Hiking
For rewarding hiking experience, Nyungwe Forest National Park should be a must to explore while you are on Rwanda safari. About 13 hiking trails do exist in this park with more than 130 kilometers of the trails via the forest. They take hikers through different habitats in this park. Bird watching
For bird enthusiasts, Nyungwe Forest National Park is undoubtedly a birder’s paradise. With over 310 bird species that call this park their home, birders are rewarded with amazing sights at birds such as Grauer’s warblers, dusky crimson wing, Shelley’s crimson wing, black and white casqued horn bill, yellow eyed black flycatchers, Cryptospiza shelleyi, Ruwenzori Nightjar, archer’s robin chat, stripe breasted tit parus fasciiventer, Rwenzori Turaco, purple breasted, blue headed and others.
Day 1: Transfer/depart for Nyungwe national park
After early morning breakfast at your lodge in Kigali you will meet with our professional driver guide and transfer to Nyungwe national park with an enroute visit to the Kings palace in Nyanza and after drive past the green fields of tea plantations on the hillsides surrounding the park. Continue to your preferred lodge after a 6 hour drive check-in for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking
After a nice served breakfast at the hotel, you will proceed to park headquarters for a short briefing. Then later you will set out for chimp tracking into the forest with the help of the ranger guide to help you allocate areas. During the search for chimps you will also meet with other primates like red tailed, black and white colobus monkeys and some forest bird species like the great blue turacos, pied kingfishers among others.
Then after you will meet with the chimps and have one hour experience and take a number memorable of photos. Continue to your Gisakura guesthouse for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Kigali for departure
After breakfast at the guesthouse, you will be driven to Kigali with enroute stopover at Botanical gardens then continue to Kigali for lunch in time and later have a drop off to the Airport for departure.
